Flash Flood Warning issued May 18 at 5:05AM EDT until May 18 at 7:15AM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA At 505 AM EDT, Halifax county dispatch reported Railroad Avenue and Summit Drive, as well as Summit Drive and Edmunds Street were closed due to high water. While heavy rain has ended, runoff from over three inches of rain earlier this morning will continue to bring the potential for flash flooding. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Law enforcement reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... South Boston... Halifax... Turbeville... Cluster Springs... This includes the following streams and drainages... Banister River, Butrum Creek, Birch Creek, Coleman Creek, Dan River, Bales Spring Branch, Big Toby Creek and Ballous Creek. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding, including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4. In west central Virginia, Alleghany VA, Bath, Botetourt and Rockbridge. * WHEN...Until 10 AM EDT this morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.
