special weather statement in effect A low pressure system moving north from Manitoba will affect the Kivalliq coast beginning tonight. This system will bring strong northeasterly wind gusts near 80 km/h as well as heavy rainfall at times mixed with snow possibly exceeding 25 mm of liquid accumulation. The rain will begin in Arviat late this evening, slowly moving northward into Whale Cove and Rankin Inlet by Monday morning and into Chesterfield Inlet in the morning hours. Strong northeasterly winds will accompany the rain reducing visibilites and bring wet and windy conditions to the region. The rain will become mixed with snow Monday night as temperatures cool to near 0 degrees. The strong winds will diminish Monday evening, however the precipitation will remain until midday on Tuesday as the low slowly weakens and pushes off to the east Tuesday afternoon. ### Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
